Fill me up Lord

In 2023, my dad and I went to the Dominican Republic on a mission trip. It was a first for the both of us and neither of us knew what to expect, and I don’t think we anticipated the impact it would have on us. We left humbled by people who, by American standards, had practically nothing. But they lived every day so grateful for all that they had. They worked hard alongside us, they smiled big and they loved and praised Jesus with all their heart.
There was a song they sang that stuck with us all. Some might say it was most likely because it was sung for a straight 20 minutes during their worship service. But in reflection, I believe it was because they sang the few words that make up the song with such passion. The three simple words of “Fill Me Up” holds such a strong desire to feel the presence of God. To feel the peace and assurance that only His presence can provide.
“Fill me up ‘till I overflow…”
I hear the words echo in my mind often, and it manifested itself into a prayer for me for the new year ahead.
Lord, fill my heart with your Holy Spirit so that I may love as you do. That I may show compassion and understanding, and be forgiving as you have been of me.
Lord, fill my mind with your Holy Spirit, so that I may have your wisdom. That I may be decisive and not only know right from wrong, but to have your strength in my weaknesses in doing your will Lord, and not my own.
Lord, may the Holy Spirit have my eyes see others, regardless of their past, their social status or attitude… as a person that deserves my love and focus. May I see their specific needs and know what you would have me do for them. May they see only your love in my eyes.
Lord, fill my body with your Holy Spirit so that I may do your work. To serve and be an answered prayer to others. To walk this earth as Jesus did, leading others to you.
Lord, may my life be filled with your Holy Spirit that I may trust in your goodness and feel your peace when walking in the deepest, darkest valleys. That I may praise you and rejoice during the beautiful moments and seasons that I pass through. That I always remember that you make good of all things, even those things intended for evil.
Prayers to you all for a blessed new year ahead and that you all be “Filled Up” with God’s Holy Spirit.
